Last Tuesday, I started my diet. I'm doing okay. According to the weigh-in this morning, I've lost 9 1/2 pounds so far. I've been thinking about diets all week. I've come to the conclusion that diet is a four letter word. Perhaps, it's not in the same category as the infamous "F" word or even the more socially acceptable "S" word, but it's still not popular.

This diagram gives an illustration of the four food groups and the amount of servings from each:

Currently, I'm hitting most of the goals. I've tried just about everything else over my lifetime so I decided to try (the results not typical) Nutri-System diet. If nothing else, it does lighten one's checking account.

Surprisingly to me, the food for the most part is pretty good. On my next order, I will maske some changes. So diet and cash are now combined in my four letter word post.

The other three words that come immediately to mind is hate(as in hating the discipline), fear, and fail. Being a man, there's nothing worse for us than to feel fearful except trying something and failing. I've lost a person over my lifetime. Each time that person came back. So to say the least, I'm concerned.

The other reason I'm concerned is that I realized that most of the diet gurus have failed us. Take a look at Nathan Pritikin, Robert Atkins, Samm Sinclair Baker (co-guru of the Scarsdale Diet). What do these men have in common. They're dead. Their diets didn't save them. What about Jim Fixx, who almost single handedly, got America to exercise more by authoring "Running for Life"? He had a heart attack and died while he was jogging.
I failed to mention Herman Tarnower, the second Scarsdale guru. What happened to him? He was murdered by one of his girl friends. Why? He wouldn't eat anything she prepared for him.

Okay, I am being facetious here.
I am a little concerned because the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. This might be my last chance to approach a healthy weight. Those are my concerns. I'll let you know what happens.
no matter how many pounds you have to lose. I am 56, and female
both make for very slow weight loss. I have also had to give up
almost everything I like to eat, which is why I can't stick to it
all the time. Three strikes and I'm out, at least this week.
I'll start again on Monday. Very good luck to you, men are usually
much more successful at attaining their goals I also reread something
I wrote to you, I'm the one that wasn't clear. Mea Culpa.
I'm not sure if I'll beat you or not. I might reach my first goal before you. I have a lot more weight to lose than you. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your comments.
