 The Death of Common Sense/Decency

You are invited to wake of two old friends, Mr. Common Sense and Ms. Decency.  They died at a ripe old age...traumatised and abused by a host of theeir former friends and companions.  Their demise was a long, slow death in this nation, in my city and even in my workplace.

They must be dead.  Nothing else could explain the following actions:

  • The Spinning Phenomenon  Do you remember when things used to be black or white? There were no spin masters.  People admitted they were wrong and took the consequences without trying to "spin it" to another viewpoint or to blame someone else.
  • Cellphoneitis  You meet victims of this strange malady wherever you go.  Two aisles over from them, you can hear someone describe Uncle Herbert's gall bladder surgery in great detail.  Pardon me I didn't come to this store to hear about your family.
  • I work in a public venue.  What happened to the common sense/decency of people?  We're not mind readers or psychic.  Please get off the phone and let us assist you instead of being upset that we checked in a book you wanted to renew.
  • What happened to belts on clothes?  They must not make them so more.  Otherwise, we wouldn't see so many colorful tatts, thong underwear and men and women suffering from plumber's crack syndrome.  Your tush might be beautiful...but I really don't want to be mooned and/or semi mooned while I'm at work.
  • To the woman old enough to know better,  It's really strange looking to see you at a Pub with almost transparent sweat pants on wearing a bright red thong underneath.  Stacy and Clinton (What Not to Wear hosts) would have had a proverbial cow if they had seen you.
  • Why is it that if I put my car's turn signal on, it's a sign for all the cars behind me to speed up?
  • When you complain about how noisy the teens are in the library, why is it alright for you to yell from side of the building to another?
  • Why is it alright for the media to stick a microphone into someone's face after they have experienced a catastrophe and ask "How do you Feel?"  Several years ago a local reporter described a murder victim's jewelry to her mother on camera...before the police could notify her that they had found her missing daughter's body.
  • I'm not even going to mention anything about Washington DC.  Politicians might be the necessary proof to prove Darwin's Theory of Evolution.

Common Sense...and...Common Decency...We miss you!

Feel Free to Post Gripes in the Comments- Say No Whine Before Its Time!

Here are a few of my gripes since the first G.A.S. post.  Feel free to post your gripes in the comments.  I know there are more than two members of this club.

  1. George Bush commuting Scooter Libby's sentence.  This is a classic example of someone being totally out of touch with the American voter.
  2. Tony Snow poking fun at the Clintons for criticising Bush's action.  Two wrongs still don't make a wrong action/decision right.
  3. The Clinton's for opening their mouths on the subject in the first place.  Bill's actions in the waning days of his Presidency pardoning 140 people was equally misguided and lost any credibility.
  4. Barry Bonds, the steroid king, home run record should have an asterik as big as he is next to his record .  They did to Roger Maris...why not to the cheater.  (For that matter McGwire and Sosa deserve the asteriks too)
  5. Political Commentators and their big mouths whether they're conservative or liberal should stop using hate or biased speech and then exclaim...it was a joke.  I didn't mean it and expect everything would be alright.
  6. Cell Phone addiction.  If I'm dining out or at a movie, turn your blasted cell phone off.  I don't want to hear about your Uncle Harvey's hernia operation or Aunt Matilda's colitis.
  7. People (of all ethnic backgrounds) being so prejudiced against prejudice that they're prejudiced.

Well,  as you can probably tell, I can gripe with the best and/or worst of them.

 Independence Day Surprise

We had a pleasant Independence Day surprise from our foster daughter and family.  Actually, we consider Amber to be our daughter even though the foster placement was not 100 percent successful.  The photos below are Amber, the world's prettiest grandchild (not that we're prejudiced), Brianna, and Amber's significant other Casey.

We don't get to see them too often because Amber has a large (and jealous) natural family.  We are there to lend support, refuge, and some much needed stability in an otherwise chaotic situation.

The picture of Twink and Alex was taken earlier.  They insisted that I post it so you can see the true children and rulers of the household.
