She had invited me to her place. She wanted to share one of her favorite spots with me and I felt privileged and excited!I had to travel to Oklahoma City.I don’t recall ever being there so I was also excited for the adventure.
One of my husband’s clients was heading that way with his private jet for a company meeting and he had always promised Troy that he would give him a lift whenever he needed.Troy called him and called in a favor.I tell you, it is the ONLY way to fly!I sat back in the plushest seat I have EVER come across and watched a movie of my choosing while being served snacks and iced tea (I got to choose whatever I wanted!).Thank you to the Kellogg’s company for taking the time to land here at the Dayton airport to collect me!How cool was that?
I picked up my rental car and punched in the directions on the OnStar (another handy little piece of technology…especially since I have zero sense of direction!)
I pulled up in front of the most darling ivy covered English cottage!I fell in love with it immediately!Dragonflower came out to meet me and it felt like a reunion with an old friend. She took me around to her lovely pond in the backyard where lounge chairs and a light lunch was waiting.Aaahhhhh! My kind of place!
HeatherScot:This pond is beautiful! You told me an interesting story about it before…do you mind sharing it with everyone?
Dragonflower:Not at all! When hubby and I first got together, I already had 2 small ponds but I didn't like where they were situated on my property.I mentioned this several times to my new hubby but after a while I realized that he was not interested in doing anything with the ponds.Well, that was until the week of our first anniversary! He surprised me by holding a pond digging BBQ.He had a crew of about 8 guys volunteer to build me a large pond and get rid of the two small ones.I was so thrilled! You see... I had to have a hysterectomy a couple of months before our anniversary and was still pretty down in the dumps and not feeling well.So it came as quite a surprise when hubby announced that he had all of this arranged but he had been holding off on it until I was feeling better.Boy did that help my healing process!
Just then Dragonflower’s black cat Bob strolled past, eyeing the many fish in the pond.
HeatherScot:You have other pets don’t you?
Dragonflower:Besides Bob, my black cat, and the pond fish, I have 2 finches- Harry Bird and his life partner Bill Bird, and 2 parakeets Buddy and Sybil.
HeatherScot:I love animals…but as you know, most of mine are of the outdoor wild variety.I just LOVE this pond! But, now I must get down to some ‘business’!LOL
What brought you to Blogstream, and what did you hope to get out of it?
Dragonflower:I had another blog site I belonged to and unsubscribed after two weeks. It just wasn't what I was looking for.I did another Google search and saw Blogstream. So I checked it out and it seemed like it was totally different than the first one I tried so I went for it. I've had websites and forums that I operated but I wanted something a little more interactive.Forums are interactive but they are also very limited in creativity.
I thought Blogstream might be a way for me to introduce some concepts, throw out some life coaching tips, and be able to have real conversations with those who were interested right there on the spot rather than through email.
HeatherScot:Blogstream does seem to be one of a kind! What was the most fun you ever had on Blogstream?
Dragonflower:When I first joined Blogstream I really had no idea what I was doing or supposed to be doing.I just started out explaining some of the things I do, things I teach, and a couple of questionnaire type things for people to answer. As time went on, I noticed on the weekends that a whole lot of people were posting music and fun graphics. They were having fun on the weekends and I wanted to get involved. So I posted a post and asked who it was I needed to get in contact with to learn the secret handshake or code word so I could be taught how to do the fun post too.It wasn't
long after I had the post up that I got several replies and was taught how to post the music and the graphics. My first Saturday night post for the Music Crawl was so much fun for me.I spent hours looking for music and just the right graphics.I think on that first music post, I spent about three days working on it because I kept changing it. Call me geeky but it was a lot of fun working on it.
HeatherScot:I know what you mean! When I can get the time, lately, I love messing with my blog. And thanks to Bella (Bella’s Got a Brand New Blog) for coming up with the concept!
I see you now share a blog with Lil Lady Reg!How did that come about?
Dragonflower:One day I noticed that LilladyReg had a new blog called Body Works.I went over to it and she had all kinds of great topics that I could really relate to.We got to talking a few times about some of them and then one day she asked me if I would like to partner with her on the blog.
Have you been over to her blog The Graphics Shop? She has some of the coolest graphics and she's found some really great ones to use for Body Works.
Dragonflower:It's been a lot of fun working with LilLadyReg and the blog. We've got some future plans for it, you'll have to come over and check it out as we get more things going.
HeatherScot:I have learned a lot from Body Works and am really looking forward to new things from you two!
Is there anything in your real life that is a direct result of your time on Blogstream?
Dragonflower:I'm not as obsessive about house cleaning. I used to be fanatical about house cleaning, while multi-tasking teaching classes and life coaching. Blogging has helped me slow down and that has been something that I needed.
Dragonflower:Also, since I joined Blogstream, three of my real time friends have also joined, as well as my husband.I have tried to talk my daughter-in-law into joining but she has had an account with another blog site for years that she is pretty happy with, but she does come over to my blog sometimes and see what I am doing. So having these people that I actually know from my personal life here with me has been a lot of fun.
HeatherScot:I’ve read other posts from women bloggers who have claimed to have become not so obsessive about house cleaning since they started blogging!LOL
HeatherScot:What 5 CD's are currently in your player?
Dragonflower:I'm into gothic/trance while my hubby is into alternative and country so there is a mix of Delerium, October Project, System of A Down, Chris LaDuex, and Disturbed.
HeatherScot:Name the 5 bloggers you want to meet.
Dragonflower:Wow, now that's a hard one since you have limited me to only 5.There are way more than 5 I would love to meet in person.I would love to do lunch with Mouse, I would love to go shopping with Biggie T. (at his shop),I'd love to sit down for coffee with Sherry, and Cracker, Coloconnect, Misty, Taylor, Reba, Miss Lou, Grandma Baba...oh the list could go on and on!
Dragonflower:Blogstream has so many interesting personalities, from the comically bizarre to the most interesting of storytellers. It's been a great experience getting to know each person I come in contact with.
HeatherScot:If money was no object and you could go anywhere you want with the bloggers of your choice, where would you go and what would you do?
Dragonflower:We would all meet in a huge crop circle and have a picnic!Doesn't that sound like fun?
HeatherScot:Yeah! But…what does one pack for a crop circle picnic? And…can we add to the crop circle design…and REALLY throw people off?LOL
HeatherScot:Do you have a favorite alcoholic beverage?
Dragonflower:I'm not much of a drinker since I have an allergic reaction to sulfites but if I do drink, it's Bailey's and coffee.
HeatherScot:Okay…Forget the alcohol! What is your favorite food and can we have the recipe?
Dragonflower:I love Mexican food and I love to cook it. I make great tacos. Now this is going to sound weird but while the ground beef is cooking and then simmering in spices, I chop up a potato into very small chunks and boil them until they are almost soft. Then I drain them and add them to the beef mixture and let it simmer for about another 30 minutes.Makes for great burritos too!
Dragonflower:I'm not a recipe person very often. I cook the way my grandmother taught me.A little pinch of this and a dab of that. Often I find if I use a recipe, things come out too salty or sugary.I also don't use anything that has MSG and I try real hard to stay away from preservatives, additives, and a lot of dyes. Just don't see the need to have them in my diet.
HeatherScot:Sounds like you have a very healthy diet. Most of that stuff you listed seems to have ties to allergic reactions, anyway. What is your nationality or ethnic background?
Dragonflower:I'm French and Welsh with a little touch of Native American.
HeatherScot:Do you have any family traditions that you celebrate every year because you're French, Welsh, or Native American?
Dragonflower:No, not really, except for Christmas. My grandparents always did up a wonderful Welsh Christmas dinner. I have tried to keep that going since their deaths but it's hard sometimes because the grandkids always want to try and change things every year. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to keep traditions going.
HeatherScot:I know what you mean.Everyone wants to do NEW things.
What’s the last book you read?
Dragonflower:The last book I completely finished (I have several started), was The Montauk Project. It's kind of a conspiracy type that talks about strange experiments in time travel and other things dealing with physics and metaphysics.
HeatherScot:I am glad to know I am not the only one that has started several books but have not finished much!LOLThat book sounds interesting to the inquiring/logical learning side of me brain!
What is the best book you ever read?
Dragonflower:Most of the books I read deal with metaphysics and spirituality. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Wayne Dyer, The Gnostic Papers, Mary Magdalene, Women's Spirituality, and so on.I suppose out of all the books I have, Healing and the Mind, a book that Bill Moyers put together is the one I would say is the best since I often re-read it.
HeatherScot:Bill Moyers, huh? Now THAT sounds interesting, too!I will put that on my list of ‘must reads’!Thanks!
What is your middle name?
Dragonflower:Little, Dragon Little Flower (laughing) OK, I'll be serious.
I don't have a middle name.My first name is a combination of two names, my grandmother's name and a name that my grandfather chose. It is put together to make one first name which is very long and everyone mispronounces it. When I introduce myself to people, I shorten it to only the first part so it is easier for people to remember.
HeatherScot:LOL!!LITTLE!LOL!I have something new to call you now!And don’t think I won’t! LOL!
What is your favorite word?
Dragonflower:I love the word phenomena.I play around with it when speaking and I say it as I see it, not as it is pronounced. That's kinda weird isn't it?I love words and I am amazed at how many words are spelled one way but pronounced differently.English is a strange language.
HeatherScot:I know.I sometimes pronounce words the way the LOOK so I can make sure to spell them correctly. For instance, the word ‘restaurant’ gave me trouble with spelling it for the longest time until I started pronouncing it to myself the way it looks.
What is your favorite quote?
Dragonflower:I love the quote, "There is something maddening about answers to metaphysical questions." -Michael Talbot
It's just so true!
HeatherScot:What is your least favorite word?
Dragonflower:Actually it would be two words, "man meat."
Dragonflower:Hubby and I were watching a show on television and someone said something about "hot piece of man meat," and that totally ruined the show for me.I don't even remember what show it was, but it was just a regular everyday television show, not cable.I just thought it sounded so vulgar.I'm not a prude and people can say lots of things that don't offend me, but for some reason, that saying bothers me.
HeatherScot:There are things that I just don’t care to have to listen to, either. However, by today’s standards I do feel prudish sometimes…but what is really wrong with that?
What turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]?
Dragonflower:Creatively would be when I write something and I think it sounds good.
Spiritually would be when I hear a really good recording or live performance of Ave Maria.I think it is the most beautiful song ever, if the right person is singing it.
Dragonflower:Emotionally would be my hubby.
HeatherScot:What turns you off?
Dragonflower:You mean besides "hot piece of man meat?" (laughing)Over-bearingness.Is that a word?I am all for assertiveness as I think sometimes we don't assert ourselves as often as we should and the result is a tendency to let people walk all over us. But I don't like the actions of people when they are over-bearing and manipulative. That's when assertiveness is taken too far.
HeatherScot:What is your favorite curse word?
Dragonflower:Hell's bells is something I say a lot.Not really a curse word I suppose but sounds better than other words I could use.
HeatherScot:What sound or noise do you love?
Dragonflower:I love the sound of silence. There is way too much noise on this planet. It's hard to escape.
Editor’s Note:I apologize for this video.Your last comment sounded like a song request to me.
HeatherScot:What sound or noise do you hate?
Dragonflower:Oh, that's easy, phones! Can't stand the things but I know they are a necessity.
HeatherScot:What is your favorite smell?
Dragonflower:A blend of Cinnamon and Nutmeg.Kind of an Oriental spice thing. I love the smell of spice cake and things like that.
HeatherScot:mmmmm….Cinnamon!I was just whiffing cinnamon and spice candles yesterday!Trying to pick out some for my candle warmers in the house.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Dragonflower:When I was younger I wanted to be a doctor but the furthest I got was as a registered clinical assistant. I stopped doing that because I decided I liked the idea of alternative medicine better. So if I were younger, I would go into alternative medicine.
HeatherScot:Hey, you ARE younger!LOL
What profession would you not like to do?
Dragonflower:I would not like to be a nurse. They receive very little respect for what they do and I don't believe they are paid well enough for what they do or put up with.It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse and I believe that they should be respected, paid more and generally, treated much better than what I have seen and experienced.
HeatherScot:Here, here!I have several friends that are nurses and all I can say is they deserve the royal treatment!
If Heaven exists, what would you like God to say to you when you arrive?
Dragonflower:I would love to know that I served my purpose and I did well.So I suppose that would be a pat on the back and a “job well done."
HeatherScot:Oh, yes!That’s all I hope to accomplish…my purpose. I’m with you there!
What is your favorite way to unwind?
Dragonflower:What we are doing right now, sitting out by the pond, the pinon wood burning in the pit, and the sounds of nature.
I'm originally from New Mexico and I miss the mountains.Sitting up high on a mountain looking out over the valley is how I used to unwind/meditate. Here in the city where there is nothing but traffic and a zillion people, my backyard has become my sanctuary over the years. But that is about to change since we are moving to Arkansas.Hubby and I have wanted to move to the Eureka Springs area for a long time. We have the opportunity to do it now. Didn't you notice that For Sale sign out in front? We've had a couple of offers we are seriously considering and it won't be long before we are where we want to be. The idea of packing up didn't thrill me at first but when I thought about the end result, it will sure be worth it!
HeatherScot:Yes, I did see the For Sale sign!I lived in Arkansas for a few years.Eureka Springs is a lovely area!Maybe I can swing by and visit once you are settled in.I still have quite a few friends from Arkansas that I keep in touch with and have always wanted to make the trip back that way to see them!
What would you say is the biggest and/or best change
in your life in the last year?
Dragonflower:The biggest change would be that I slowed down on my work.I used to have meetings, classes, workshops, and lectures and tried to balance it with family and friends. But the family and friends got the short stick so I have slowed down and am enjoying life more.
When I turned 50, I came to a realization of how time passes too fast to be caught up in things that really aren't that important. Rather than running around like a chicken with its head cut off, I decided that I would concentrate on the things that mattered most. I have a wonderful family, a husband that has showed me what real love is, and I don't want to waste time being caught up in things that would take me away from all the positive that is in my life.It took way too long to get here.
HeatherScot:Recognizing and appreciating is a big thing for anyone.Too many people never get to that point.I am glad that you can have the time to recognize and appreciate.Life is too short as it is.
You mention classes, lectures, etc. What type of classes and lectures do you do?"
Dragonflower:For the past 10 years I have taught meditation and esoteric anatomy classes.I've given lectures at metaphysical fairs on energy field health, healthy homes, chakra balancing and other metaphysical topics. Hubby and I both have officiated drumming circles as well as men's and women's spirituality groups.
Dragonflower:You know...while we've been sitting here, I've sensed you have some things going on that have caused you a lot of tension.Would you like for me to teach you a simple relaxation exercise?I've got a special area upstairs that I have for meditation purposes and along the way you can see more of the house.
HeatherScot:Oh, that sounds great! Thank you!
As we entered the house through the kitchen, it's like walking through an old French country farm house kitchen.I noticed lots of what seemed to be antiques. The dining room is the same with a touch of Tuscany.
HeatherScot:Is that chandelier over the dining room table an antique?
Dragonflower:No, it's not an antique but it does look like one doesn't it?
HeatherScot:What about the one in the living room?
Dragonflower:Yes, that one is, don't you love all the crystal? It was in the dining room but I decided it would look better here in the living room.Since my hubby is an electrician, it's been great being able to move things around like that. This is an old house, built back in the 30's and while some upgrades have been made, it really needed a lot of electrical work.
HeatherScot:This house is much bigger than it looks from the outside.Your library is amazing, a little creepy with all the gargoyle statues but very interesting.
Going up the stairs I'm feeling a little nervous, the atmosphere is continuing on a gothic theme.A touch of Edgar Allan Poe? The colors of the rooms have changed to a dark Garnet with touches of Ivory and there are lots of candles and wall sconces.
Dragonflower:Well here we are, have a seat on that cushion. Now, all you need to do is close your eyes and try to
relax.Maybe you'd feel more comfortable taking off your shoes.I'm going to turn on some music, it's a CD called Meditation, Classical Relaxation and it has a little Mozart and Beethoven that will help you relax.I've found one of the best relaxation tools is music playing softly in the background, like Moonlight Sonata.
Good, it looks like you are starting to relax a bit; it would help if you concentrated on your breathing so why don't you take a nice, long deep breath, in through your nose, and then slowly out through your lips.Breathe from your abdomen, not your chest, that will help. Why don't you do that a couple more times and then breathe normally.
Imagine with your breath that all tension is leaving your body. With each exhalation; stress, tension, aches and pains, are being released. With each inhalation, healthy, positive energy is filling your body.
Your thoughts are floating like clouds and you let them go... not focusing on anything...just relaxing.
HeatherScot:I thought I was going to fall asleep, in fact, I think I did for a few minutes!I saw colors that seem to swirl around me, was I dreaming?
Dragonflower:No, you weren't dreaming, when you are totally relaxed, you can sometimes see in your minds eye, a shift in consciousness. Some people see clouds, swirling energy, or hear sounds like the buzzing of bees.
HeatherScot:I don't know what it was but I can't believe how great I feel.I'm relaxed yet I have energy! Thanks Dragon Flower, I'm going to practice that at home, what was the name of the CD?
Dragonflower:Here, take it with you, I have another copy. Would you like to join me in the dining room now for some tea or do you need to be going?
HeatherScot:I really should be going so that I can hook up with my flight back…but the tea does sound nice. Can I take you up on that offer some other time?
Dragonflower:Of course you can!Do you like Arkansas?I'd love for you to come visit after we move.I'll let you know when we get settled.
HeatherScot:I will be looking very forward to that! This has been an amazing visit!
I bend down to give Bob a few strokes on his back before I head for the door.
I JUST make it back to the airstrip in time to take off. Thanks to Dragonflower I have a most wonderful, relaxed flight home.Dragonflower, I WILL make that trip to Eureka Springs to visit!
